Since I am living in Tokyo for over 10 years, I am proud of myself as Tokyo Trip Expert. Here, I will tell you everything I know about how travelers from all over the world can amazingly enjoy the journey with all reasonable hotels, tasty food choices, and amazing spots including my secret recommends with travel tips in this biggest metropolitan city in the world. For Tokyo trip, I believe 4 days stay should be minimum, and if you prefer including staying hot spring spots close to Tokyo, around one week would be ideal to maximize your all fantastic experience in this trip. For this post, I’ll tell you about my recommends for hotels to get a most convenient access to all travel spots in Tokyo.
To get to Tokyo, we have 2 major airports. One is Haneda and the other is Narita. So, hotel location which has easy access from one of the airport will be very convenient for you. And also, your hotel choice will be definitely critical because you can manage your trip more easily in this big city.
From Haneda Airport
I highly recommend you to stay in Hamamatsucho (or we call “Daimon”) area. Because you can use Mono Rail Express directly from Haneda International Airpot Station to JR Hamatsucho Station which only takes 15min and the cost is just under US$5, pretty cheep. Also, Hamatsucho has number of famous and beautiful trip spots such as Tokyo Tower, Zojo-ji, Hamarikyu, and Tsukiji.
More also, Hamamatsucho has two JR lines. One is Yamanote line which you can directly visit to Akihabara and Tokyo Imperial Place by 10-15 ride. And, the other one is Keihin Tohoku Line by which you can directly go to Yokohama Bay Area (closest station is Sakuragi-cho) and China Town in Tokohama(closest station is Ishikawa-cho) with 20min ride. And we have two Subways in Hamamatsucho one of which has directly access to Asakusa Sensoji, and the other has direct access to Tsukiji-shijo, the biggest fish market place in Japan. Moreover, you an use Takeshiba Station to get on Yulikakome line by which you can directly go to Odaiba by 10min ride, pretty close. T
hus, it will be the easiest way for you to travel around in Tokyo by staying in this area. So, if your flight goes to Haneda, you should find Airbnb or hotel deals in Hamamatsucho without doubt. If you can find out nice airbnb deal around this area, that would be great. For example, I used to live in Skyhouse Hamarikyu. They have a gym which opens 24 hours and cozy co-working space both on 13th floor. If you can find the room here, that would be fantastic choice! because it’s not only easy to get to the travel spots of Hamamatsucho area as I mentioned, but also very convenient to get to Odaiba, Ginza, ,Tsukiji, and Asakusa, too.
Here is Google Map link.
For 2nd best choice in Airbnb will be Acty Shiodome which is located in the opposite side of Skye House. The location is also really nice. One of the great benefit will be they have 24 hour open Super Market in 1st floor. Very convenient.
Here is Google Map Link.
Actually, we also have pretty good hotels around these area, too. I have some recommends.
No.1 – Bayside Hotel Azur Takeshiba
Most people don’t know this hotel, but to me, very familiar because I used their spa every night when I lived in Skyhouse Hamarikyu. The location is pretty close to the apartment and Hamarikyu Garden, and it has 24 hour convenience store within 1 min by walk. Hotel price is also not that expensive compared with other hotels around these areas. The average is US$150/night with break fast ticket. And each room has Hamarikyu Garden view or Odaiba Rainbow Bridge view. That would be amazing 🙂
And the biggest benefits for you stay here is actually spa. You can get free spa tickets during your stay. They open from 3pm to 1am over mid night and 6am to 10am in morning time. They have very large bath tab, Jacuzzi spa, sauna, and cold water bath. And in the relaxation space, they have comfortable couch, and you can see amazingly beautiful night view of both Tokyo tower or Odaiba Rainbow bridge.
You can book this hotel from here.
No.2 – Intercontinental Tokyo Bay
The second choice will be Intercontinental Tokyo Bay. The cost is a bit more expensive than Azure Takeshiba. It will be around US$200/night. The location is pretty close to Azure Takeshiba, and a little more luxury hotel.
One of my favorite places in this hotel is their bar in 6th floor. They have a piano bar, and open terrace bar outside in Summer season is so cool. You can see amazing night view of Odaiba Rainbow Bridge. You should definitely book this bar in advance.
No.3 – Prince Park Tower Tokyo
The third choice will be Prince Park Tower Tokyo. The cost is a bit more expensive than Intercontinental Tokyo Bay. It will be around US$250/night. The location is pretty close to Shiba Park, Zojo-ji, and Tokyo Tower.
And, what I love in this hotel is they have a bar on 33rd floor and the view for Tokyo Tower is impressive. This will be one of the best view spots for Tokyo Tower. Absolutely you have to book this bar in advance. Otherwise, you have wait at least for 30min to get a table.
No.4 – Hotel Villa Fontaine Shiodome
The forth choice will be Hotel Villa Fontaine Shiodome. Their location is completely opposite side of Azur Takeshiba, thus, we can have the Hamarikyu Garden view from your room.
The price is around $160/night, so, almost same price level of Azur Takeshiba. Interior design of the room is a bit more luxury than Azur Takeshiba, and they have gym inside. So, it’s more like business stay compared with Azur Takeshiba.
No.5 – Conrad Tokyo
Finally, if you are very rich, Conrad Tokyo will be a fantastic choice. It will be US$400 to 800 / night. This hotel is pretty close to Hamarikyu Garden, and next to Villa Fontaine Shiodome.
Also, they have a pool and gym inside.
You can book this hotel here.

From Narita Airport
If your flight destination is Narita Airport, the best way to get Tokyo will be NEX, express train by JR. And JR Shinagawa Station will be ideal destination for you to go. And, Shinagawa station has lots of hotel, too. But, the location is not so convenient for Tokyo trip, thus, you should take JR Yamanote line, and get to Hamatsucho area. Here is Google Map Link for transportation.
And, to enjoy cashless travel experience in Tokyo, Suica will be a best tool. I summarized how to use it with much convenience here. Please also check this pots.
From Vol.2, I’ll tell you about my favorite and lovely travel spots in Tokyo which will fit to all generations around the world.
